Introducing the Platform Community

On September 9, 2024, the SailPoint Developer Community will be renamed to the SailPoint Platform Community.

Why the name change?

Although our community does have developers, it has so much more! One thing is for sure: all community members are users of the platform. To more accurately reflect this composition, we are changing the name from Developer Community to Platform Community.

What does this mean for our users?

The most significant change will be the URL change from developer.sailpoint.com to platform.sailpoint.com.

:bangbang: Future date is TBD.
On 2024-09-09T22:00:00Z→2024-09-10T02:00:00Z our forum and technical documentation may be temporarily unavailable as we transition from developer.sailpoint.com to platform.sailpoint.com.

We will redirect all existing links to platform.sailpoint.com until the end of 2024. We will sunset all developer.sailpoint.com links on January 1, 2025. :headstone:. Please update any bookmark or shortcuts to avoid future hiccups.

Once complete, our technical documentation will still be available in the top navigation bar, but our homepage will temporarily be the Platform Community forum.

Additionally, the following Developer Relations Team groups will be renamed to reflect the change.

Hi Derek

Is this platform being positioned to eventually replace the compass community forums? I admit I usually search topics or documentation there and forget to check here.

Thanks for prior information.

Hey Brendan, great question! What I can say is that we’re focused on the technical, hands-on-keyboard problem solvers. We know as a county your needs can vary widely by so many different facets. I would encourage you to look around and see where you’re finding the information and resources most valuable to your role, business, industry, etc.

Either way, we’re here to help!

Hey@jordan_violet , agreed with @BrendanT , I’m also convinced we should merge compass and “platform” forums. Compass should remain for all things related to product download, support tickets … But any technical questions about product, features … should move to platform. I’ve always both forums opened in my browser, and when I search for a technical answer i’ve always to search in compass then platform forum (and ultimately in our internal slack  ) And search in platform is way better than the one in compass

Hi @colin_mckibben, @colin_mckibben,

I strongly believe we should consider merging the Compass and Platform forums.

Personally, I often find myself toggling between both forums, especially when searching for technical solutions.

Additionally, the search functionality on Platform is significantly more efficient than that of Compass, which would improve the overall user experience.

Would love to hear thoughts on this idea!

the best part about this forum (dev/platform) is that it’s indexed by search engines so you can use google/bing/etc to search and you aren’t limited to the internal search. I wish we could get that with compass because search is, let’s say, not ideal over there.

I wish both communities merge here.

  1. We’re already getting Product Managers announcing new features and very rich discussions about those changes.
  2. We can exchange technical knowledge, but we also have here feedback for documentation, UI improvements, business impact of certain feature changes, schedules for future platform outages which may or not require to have “hands on keyboard” experience/role.
  3. There are great articles in Compass, but as @awyss said, they’re hidden from the internet, and the internal search isn’t very good, so the only way I’ve crossed across those articles was via a link referred in another post.
  4. The information in Compass looks a bit stale and old. Maybe I haven’t searched very well, so maybe I’m just biased as a loyal fan of the “platform” community
  5. Community managers are very responsive, approachable and dedicated to the community. I haven’t participated much in Compass, but when I just started my journey in SailPoint I didn’t feel much encouragement to get me started there. When I joined this community, I immediately felt very much welcomed!
  6. Last but not the least, badges and perks for participating in Compass don’t compare to the Ambassadors program.

For all reasons above, when I need answers, “this” (Developer/Platform Community) is my first stop.

Thanks for the heads up

Hi all,
Though this transition is still on our roadmap, we need to postpone it for now. We’re sorry for any inconveniences you may have encountered due to our planned downtime. More details to come!

I agree with the sentiment above on the merge from compass, but I would not like a direct copy paste migration. Much information in compass is indeed old, outdated and sometimes difficult to grasp. I notice that documentation.sailpoint.com is quite clear in a lot of its documentation, and it would benefit to go over compass and take (and rewrite for clarify/updates) the last bits of information that documentation.sailpoint.com currently lacks. compass documentation could then be archived in my opinion.

Thank you for the updates on this.

Thanks for the update, i do wish to have single forum for compass and developer community!!

Any decision on this? What’s the ETA?

I find it confusing that posts written by Jordan Violet appear to be written by Derek Putnam now.

Community operating procedure is to merge posts from an ex-community manager into the current community manager for posterity and operation of ongoing threads.

This is no longer on the roadmap and this community will remain the Developer Community.
