Blog Draft Category Improvement Ideas

When reviewing some of the blog drafts, I came up with a couple ideas that I believe would be helpful for the end user.

Clarification of what should be created

When looking at many of the topics in the blog drafts, most of them seemed half finished and not complete. I was under the impression that the Blog Drafts was for a completed first draft of your blog article that was being submitted for review, rather than a scratch pad for working on your blog. I do see it does allude to working on your blog content in this section in the guide: Guide for Writing Blog Posts

Blog Draft specific tags

THis would be an extension of the first idea, but does not need the first idea to be useful. If we could have tags for the Blog Drafts that denoted what stage the draft was in, that would be helpful. I have the following suggestions:

  • Work-in-Progress (WIP) - This would be for someone who is working on their blog draft, but not ready to submit. This would tell readers that there is no review needed, but they can provide some for the already written material if they want.
  • WIP-Feedback - This denoted the author is actively seeking feedback on their WIP. They should have the specific questions they are seeking feedback on listed at the end of their blog draft with this tag.
  • Ready-For-Peer-Review - To assist the Dev Rel team, this status would tell other members that this is in a finished draft format and they are seeking review of the content from others.
  • Submitted-for-Publication - This is the final draft that has taken in all the feedback from the peers and is ready for the Dev Rel team to review it with their devs so it can be promoted to the primary Blogs section.

Timeline for Blog Review

I know many people submit blogs and then wait a while for them to be submitted. If there can be a timeline for review of these, that would be helpful. This is currently difficult to accomplish without a mechanism to know when it is ready (see above point for 1 mechanism) but coming up with a basic timeline would be helpful.

Split Ambassador Point Value for Blogs

Because it can take a while for review, it would be good if there could be a split point value for the Blog Drafts. This would allow someone some points immediately for their work, and then additional points if it is accepted.

  • Blog Submitted for Peer Review - 50
  • Blog Submitted for final review - 100
  • Blog Accepted and Posted - 300
  • Blog Submission Abuse (AI, Spamming topics, etc) - Lose blog points for quarter.

I second that @gmilunich.

Hey @gmilunich,

Thank you so much for detailing your thoughts on this! Here are the actions I’m planning to take this week:

  1. Add clarification around what should and shouldn’t be posted in the Blog Drafts sub category
  2. Research how to add tags specific to a category (I believe it’s possible, just need to figure out how to do it!)
  3. Think on how we can add a timeline for review so that people get feedback sooner
  4. Talk with the team about blog specific point changes (this may have to wait until Tyler returns from leave)

With your permission, I will borrow some of what you’ve written here for the proposed changes.
