I a trying to create a NERM user using a separate profile type .However after the users gets created it shows in pending state .Am i missing something in the configuration.

The pending status is being shown for identity proofing.
You can go to tables and change the attributes(headers) that are being shown. and then you can include the firstname, lastname etc.
As far as i understand the NERM profile would have been created.
@haricc200: Profiles are created as you can see profile id , this shows identity proofing pending , i believe you must not have any identity proofing configured, to show desired attributes in table, just modify
Admin > templates > tables > contractors
sample table for assignment below will show these 3 attributes, similarly select what you want to display and you can also preview table to verify.
