Description
With this new file source integration for Data Access Security (DAS) we extend our connectivity portfolio coverage with file shares that support the SMB/CIFS protocol. By delivering a generic SMB connector that includes Resource Discovery, Access Analysis, Data Classification - we provide governance capabilities to niche File Share systems that currently do not have native support in DAS.
New Capabilities
DAS customers who use a CIFS/SMB protocols are now able to connect that share in DAS as an application and run the following tasks:
- Resource discovery
- Permission collection
- and Data Classification
Problem
Customers have data stored and shared on various storage and sharing systems, some of them are niche solution to apply only to a few customers. To ensure security and compliance customers need to extend governance processes and controls to protect data and ensure appropriate access is maintained. DAS currently does not offer connectivity to all NAS/File Share flavors - leaving a governance gap.
Solution
This connector (previously CIFS) enables you to use Data Access Security to access and analyze data stored in Generic SMB and do the following:
- Analyze the structure of your stored data.
- Classify the data being stored.
- Verify user permissions on the resources and compare them against requirements.
Who is affected?
Currently all DAS clients and prospects that want to connect their SMB/CIFS protocol file shares.
