I’m excited to introduce myself — I’m new to SailPoint Identity Security Cloud (ISC) and eager to get started on my learning journey. Coming from UAM (Access Management) background, I’ve heard great things about what SailPoint can do, and I’m looking forward to diving in.
I’d love some guidance from experienced folks here on:
Where to start — Are there official docs, learning paths, or structured courses you’d recommend for absolute beginners?
Hands-on practice — Is there a sandbox or trial environment I can use to practice without affecting a live tenant?
Key concepts to focus on first — Things like Sources, Identity Profiles, Transforms, Access Profiles, Roles, or Workflows — what should I tackle first?
Developer resources — For someone interested in the API/SDK side of things, where’s the best place to start? (REST APIs, PowerShell, SailPoint CLI, etc.)
Community tips — Any blogs, YouTube channels, or community threads that helped you when you were just starting out?
I’ve already come across developer.sailpoint.com and the Compass learning portal, but I’m not sure which path to follow first or what order makes the most sense.
Any advice, resource links, or personal learning tips would be hugely appreciated. I’m a fast learner and ready to put in the work — I just need a good roadmap!
Since you already gone through the developer and Compass community, I would say to start with Identity University - On-demand and instructor-led where you can start the training based on your role. It includes various types of training like on-demand, instructor-led and private training. It gives you a clarity and a path based on where you want to go.
I would say you can start your ISC Learning journey from SailPoint Identity University. Login to Identity University and check the Training path for ISC. Start from Credential Leader and then move forward.

You need to make sure that you have got access to SailPoint University and SailPoint Compass so that you can read through the articles and pre-defined University Course. Use the below SailPoint University URL and start going through the VIDEO tutorials.

It depends. If you are working with an organization who is Partner with SailPoint, then, for every Partner organization, SailPoint does provides a “PARTNER ISC TENANT“. Hence, you can ask within your organization on that. If not, them, kindly enroll yourself to SailPoint Ambassador program. Once you become SailPoint Ambassador successfully after meeting the required criteria over couple of months, then, you will get a Free Tenant from SailPoint. Refer the below URL on how to become SailPoint Ambassador.
Key concepts to focus on first — Things like Sources, Identity Profiles, Transforms, Access Profiles, Roles, or Workflows — what should I tackle first?
So, you can focus on Sources (Its similar as compared to IIQ), Roles, Access Profiles, Entitlements, Identity Profile (This is completely new from IIQ), Transforms (This is very important for massaging your data as per needs). Once the above is done, then, go ahead with Workflows, Certifications, SODs, Forms, Request Center, etc. Refer the below User Guide of ISC for the same. Also, Go through Virtual Appliances. Also, in order to achieve good amount of Customizations in ISC through Codes, go through Cloud Rules, Connector Rules, etc.
Developer resources — For someone interested in the API/SDK side of things, where’s the best place to start? (REST APIs, PowerShell, SailPoint CLI, etc.)
Install Postman onto your local machine, Download and Configure the Latest the API Collections for ISC. Read through the Documentations.
For APIs.
For Various PowerShell Scripts, Cloud Rules and Connector Rules. Go through below documents.
Community tips — Any blogs, YouTube channels, or community threads that helped you when you were just starting out?
For ISC, there are not many direct blogs or Video Tutorials. In case, I find any, I will post it here.
