Description
SailPoint Data Access Security provides visibility and governance into the most complex multi-domain environments. Windows File Server (WFS) currently supports resource discovery, permission analysis, and data classification features. With the addition of Activity Monitoring for Windows File Server, customers can monitor any suspicious activities on a Windows File Server and also get alerted through integrated Workflows within SailPoint SaaS platform.
New Capabilities
By adding support for Activity Monitoring for Windows File Server within Data Access Security, enterprises can monitor all activities within WFS and use the alerting mechanism through SailPoint platform for any suspicious events.
Problem
Windows File Server remain the backbone of enterprise data storage and sharing, providing secure, centralized access to files with robust permissions, high availability, and seamless integration across the Microsoft ecosystem. Any unwanted access can cause security breaches, compliance issues, and can cause legal/financial issues for the company.
Solution
By enabling Activity Monitoring on Windows File Server systems, IT and Security teams can get clear visibility into how data is accessed and used. With this feature, they can track who accessed the file, when it was opened, modified or deleted, and from which user or device the access is performed. They can also track if there is any change in access rights etc. This helps them contain any entitlement sprawl and limit data exposure.
Who is affected?
All customers who have Data Access Security (DAS) licenses are able to use this new feature.
Action Required
Customers who want to have Activity Monitoring for Windows File Server can start using this feature by configuring WFS Activity Monitoring within the application configuration for Windows File Server in Data Access Security (DAS). They would also need to deploy an application within their servers to route the activities through the Virtual Appliances which are deployed within their infrastructure. Please follow the instructions provided within the documentation for configuring WFS activity monitoring.
What is Next Up?
The installer which need to be deployed on WFS is stateless. That means in case there is an upgrade customers need to uninstall and reinstall the new version. We would be adding an upgrade capability for that installer in the future.
