New Capability: Data Access Security (DAS) for Structured data - Snowflake

Description

With this new Snowflake integration for Data Access Security (DAS), enterprises can bring Snowflake data access under the same SailPoint governance frameworks used to manage applications, infrastructure, and business-critical data spread across diverse file storage systems. DAS now supports Snowflake by enabling you to discover resources, analyze permissions, and classify data within your Snowflake environment.

New Capabilities

By connecting Data Access Security to Snowflake, enterprises can manage Snowflake access alongside other applications and file systems for a consistent governance approach across SailPoint platform.

Problem

Data Lakes and Lakehouse platforms, such as Snowflake, enable organizations to take advantage of their data to drive productivity, operational efficiency, and innovation by providing a centralized data repository. They also offer frameworks to apply Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI agents to surface insights and support business decisions.

When Snowflake and similar cloud data platforms expands, so does the complexity of protecting and governing critical data access. Customers want to make sure that they are on top of any sensitive data access by making sure that the data is fully protected and monitored.

Solution

By connecting Snowflake into SailPoint Data Access Security, customers can view their critical resources within snowflake including Tables, Views, Stored Procedures etc. and detect over-permissioned accounts so that it can contain entitlement sprawl and limit data exposure. DAS also ingest data classification directly from Snowflake if it is enabled there.

Who is affected?

All customers who have Data Access Security (DAS) licenses are able to use this new feature.

Action Required

Customers who want to have visibility and data governance on Snowflake can start using this feature by adding the Snowflake account into DAS and providing appropriate permissions to read information from Snowflake.
