NERM Onboarding Logic for Manager/Sponsor Auto‑Approval

Hello ISC and NERM Members,

Hope you all are doing well.

I need your guidance on the following NERM requirement:

Requirement

When a Manager submits a new Non‑Employee onboarding request and selects themselves as the Sponsor, the approval step should be skipped.

However, if any other collaborator submits the request and selects a different Sponsor, the approval workflow should trigger normally.

Scenarios

Scenario 1:

  • Manager submits an onboarding request

  • Manager selects their own name as the Sponsor

  • Request is submitted
    :backhand_index_pointing_right: Expected Result: No approval should be triggered (auto‑approved)

Scenario 2:

  • A collaborator (not the Manager) submits an onboarding request

  • Sponsor selected is Person A

  • Request is submitted
    :backhand_index_pointing_right: Expected Result: Approval should be triggered and routed to the Sponsor

Hi Dev, The Approval Form action has this functionality today. There is an option for “Skippable Approval” - where if the Requester of the workflow is also a performer for the Approval action, the Approval is skipped.

Hi Zachary,

Is there any option available to not allow self approval ? I have configured profile contributor role as the approver but requester is also member of contributor role. How NERM can skip requester and send approval notification to other contributors ?
