Hi all,
When the Web Services SaaS connector was released I was excited, hoping to migrate the sources using the regular Web Services connector to get rid of the unnecessary connection to the Virtual Appliance.
Unfortunately I learned that this is not possible as these two connectors, whilst on first glance looking similar, are different in crucial ways and are continuously diverging from each other in terms of functionality.
A crucial first difference is that rules are not supported in Web Services SaaS connector. But other examples involve subtle differences in how they operate when it comes to multiple API calls on the same operations, supported variables-operations ( _#
is supported in on prem connector, but not in SaaS connector, while $$
is โSupportedโ without clear documentation in SaaS connector, but not in on prem connector). When using the SaaS connector, a lot details you might have learned on the on prem connector are not applicable anymore, creating issues while developing.
I would suggested these two to be compared and aligned, allowing for a more nice migration from one connector to the other, and a more intuitive way of using one if you are already familiar with the other.
After all, if the main distinction is between being SaaS-connector v.s. on-prem connector, why should other differences exist? If both are still supported, why not enhance both of them with the same functionality?
In the meantime, it would be nice for SailPoint to have a documentation/article on all the differences between the two, making it more easy for developers to switch between them.
Kind regards,
Angelo
