I am configuring a UAR certification campaign in SailPoint and need guidance on how reviewer failover should work when the assigned reviewer or system owner is on leave. When a campaign starts, SailPoint assigns certification items to the primary reviewer, but if that person is unavailable, the tasks remain unreviewed. I want to understand whether SailPoint supports any automatic Fallback or reassignment mechanism in this scenario. If not, I would like to know the recommended best practice for ensuring certifications continue without delays.
Should organisations rely on delegated reviewers, backup reviewers, or Governance Groups to provide manual failover coverage. I’m seeking advice on the correct configuration pattern to prevent UAR campaigns from stalling due to reviewer absence.

SailPoint does not provide an automatic reviewer failover mechanism during a certification campaign if the assigned reviewer or system owner is unavailable after the campaign has launched. Certification decisions remain assigned to the original reviewer unless they are manually reassigned.
As a best practice, organizations should establish a Work Reassignment process for planned absences (leave, vacation, etc.) before certification campaigns begin. This ensures certification tasks are redirected to an appropriate backup reviewer and prevents reviews from becoming overdue.
In most cases, implementing a formal Work Reassignment process for reviewers going on leave is the recommended approach to ensure UAR campaigns continue without delays and certification timelines are met.
Like @suraj_gorle already mentioned, I think the best/easiest route is to enforce Work Reassignment so managers are not leaving tasks/reviews out there.
Another option I’ve seen organizations use is a certification escalation script or workflow, this will basically automatically reassign all outstanding reviews up to their manager. This is typically done when the review is past due and you need it completed ASAP. I made a blog post detailing this workflow below.
Another option is to use the “Escalate” button in the ISC VSCode extension which works well if you have a few users that you want to escalate (reassign to the users manager) instead of escalating the whole campaign like the workflow option does.
