In the Global Settings > Work Items tab there is a Certification Work Item Policy. Does that override the settings in the Certification Definition objects?

If the CertificationDefinintion defines notifications and escalations (didn’t see expiration anywhere) and SP won’t let a “0” zero be entered, what do I put in the boxes?
If you check this option “Notify Before Certification Expires” while creating the certification, then you can send the remainders and escalations to the users. And if you do not select this option then no remainders and escalations are sent to the respective people.
If you only want to send remainders and not perform escalations, then you can skip adding escalations in this option
It’s up to you, if you want to send a reminder notification and then frequency as well, and similar for escalation as well, If you have put in the details, and write an escalation rule.
However, if you do want the reminders and notification to send, you can skip it as well.
