SailPoint CLI Tranfrom Preview not working

I am unable to test out my transforms they do not seem to be working at all when trying to use the preview feature in the SailPointCLI I am on version 2.5.0. I am just getting a blank response when trying to use the preview feature.

Example Transfrom:

{"type": "concat","name": "Active Directory Display Name","attributes": {"values": [{"type": "accountAttribute","attributes": {"attributeName": "LastName","sourceName":"Test-Dayforce-IdentityProfileCreation"}},", ",
{
    "type": "firstValid",
    "attributes": {
      "values": [
        {
          "type": "accountAttribute",
          "attributes": {
            "attributeName": "CommonName",
            "sourceName":"Test-Dayforce-IdentityProfileCreation"
          }
        },
        {
          "type": "accountAttribute",
          "attributes": {
            "attributeName": "FirstName",
            "sourceName":"Test-Dayforce-IdentityProfileCreation"
          }
        }
      ]
    }
  }
]
}}

Hello Nicholas. I would first isolate whether this is the CLI preview itself or something specific to the transform. Try a simple static transform against the same identity:

{
  "name": "CLI Preview Test",
  "type": "static",
  "attributes": {
    "value": "test"
  }
}

Then run the direct command the CLI already provided:

sail transform preview --profile <profileId> --identity <identityId> --file <file>.json

The CLI Transforms guide confirms this is the direct preview mode, and that a successful preview should display the transform result together with the identity attributes. If the static transform also returns the same completely empty table, I would focus on the CLI or identity preview path rather than the concat transform.

If the static transform works, then check the inputs in the original transform. For accountAttribute, sourceName must match the source display name and attributeName must match the account attribute name shown in the source schema. Also confirm the selected identity actually has an account on Test-Dayforce-IdentityProfileCreation, since accountAttribute returns null when the identity has no account on that source.

Your concat depends on LastName plus a firstValid between CommonName and FirstName, so I would test those three account attributes individually as well. firstValid returns the first value that is not null. If the identity does not have an account on that Dayforce source, those account lookups will not provide the values the transform expects.

You can also test the same mapping in the UI. Go to Identities > Identity Profiles, open the profile, select Mappings, map the attribute to your transform, save, and preview the identity data. If that works for the same identity while CLI 2.5.0 still returns the empty table, that narrows it down to the CLI preview path, and it would be worth raising against the sailpoint-cli repository. HI @nwolfe5 Have you ever tried exploring the vs code option to write transforms? there also you get a preview option

Yea it looks like the Extension option is working for preview, but the CLI preview is not even though the transform is valid.

HI Nicholas,

you need to test and preview while using the transform types differently in one transform, while with the firstValid type you are using the account attribute and then again account attributes if both conditions fails then it should print some value like “No Value”. First try with simple logic.
And for CLI you can follow the guidance provide by Harish Punna.
