How I can be a better Certification Campaigns Lead in ISC?

Generic Inquiry - As if I decide to pursue my further move in career as Certification Campaigns Lead in ISC (IdentityNow). is it a better choice I am making and How I can do better in my role as Certification Campaigns Lead.

@EmrrannAawate ,
I think it can definitely be a good career path, especially if you combine certification knowledge with a strong understanding of Identity Security Cloud overall.

As a Certification Campaigns Lead, I would focus on more than just creating and running campaigns. Understanding the complete lifecycle is important — certification configuration, campaign scope, certification types, access reviews, delegation, reminders/escalations, revocation behavior, campaign completion, and reporting.

I would also recommend getting comfortable with the underlying identity and access model in ISC. Understanding identities, accounts, entitlements, roles, access profiles, lifecycle states, and how changes in those areas affect certifications will help you troubleshoot issues much more effectively.

A few areas I would focus on:

  • Become very strong with Certification Campaign configuration and troubleshooting.

  • Understand how certification decisions ultimately affect access and provisioning.

  • Learn the ISC APIs related to certifications and governance.

  • Get comfortable with certification reporting and audit requirements.

  • Understand common certification scenarios such as manager, application owner, role owner, and entitlement owner reviews.

  • Learn how to design campaigns based on business requirements rather than simply using the default configuration.

Most importantly, don’t limit yourself to being a “campaign administrator.” Try to understand why the organization is conducting the certification, what risk it is trying to address, and what happens after a reviewer makes a decision.

That combination of ISC technical knowledge + governance/compliance understanding can make you much more valuable in the long term.

Thanks.

If you’re interested in governance and compliance, becoming a Certification Campaigns Lead is a good career move. My advice would be to focus on understanding business access requirements, keeping campaigns user-friendly, reducing review fatigue, and building strong relationships with managers and application owners. The more you can automate and simplify the process, the more successful you’ll be in the role.

Don’t position yourself as a “cert campaign lead” Position yourself as an “access governance leader.” That mindset shift is what typically separates good Certification Leads from exceptional ones.

A Certification Campaigns Lead role can be an excellent specialization within SailPoint ISC and the broader IGA domain. The most successful professionals in this role go beyond simply launching campaigns; they focus on improving access governance, reducing organizational risk, enhancing compliance, and delivering measurable business value. If you combine strong SailPoint knowledge with governance, compliance, analytics, and stakeholder management skills, this path can open doors to senior IGA leadership and architecture roles in the future.

  1. Understand the business context behind access, not just the technical configuration.
  2. Master SailPoint ISC certification capabilities, including manager, application owner, and event-based certifications.
  3. Drive reviewer engagement through clear communication, reminders, and timely escalations.
  4. Measure success using key metrics such as completion rates, review times, revocations, and exceptions.
  5. Focus on access quality, ensuring unnecessary or risky access is identified and removed.
  6. Develop strong stakeholder management skills to work effectively with business owners, auditors, compliance, and security teams.
  7. Continuously improve campaigns by analyzing lessons learned and optimizing future reviews.
