Exchange SharedMailbox Aggregates as GUID - even with useDisplayNameForSharedMailbox set true

This is a continuation of a previous closed topic: Exchange SharedMailbox aggregation returning as GUID

We are aggregating sharedMailboxes (eventually - but that is another topic) and they appear as a mixture of human readable names and GUIDs.

The above topic identifies the solution to read Shared Mailbox names instead of GUIDs is to add the ‘useDisplayNameForSharedMailbox‘ attribute to the connector attributes and set it to true. This has been done but the Shared Mailboxes continue to be aggregated as GUID values.

We are using a SaaS Entra ID connector (enabled for Exchange Online) - which the original topic suggests will work with the useDisplayNameForSharedMailbox attribute. There are no Troubleshooting topics (apart from the usual timeout issues) mentioned in the SaaS connector documentation. The 'need for ‘useDisplayNameForSharedMailbox’ is mentioned in the Entra ID VA connector documentation.

Can someone confirm that the ‘useDisplayNameForSharedMailbox’ attribute works in the Enta ID SaaS connector, and if so, what else do I need to check / do to read the name of shared Mailboxes?

Your help, as always, is much appreciated!

Are you noticing any duplicates entitlements, where one instance is the GUID and the other instance is the DisplayName?

If you look at an account, do you see a mix of sharedMailbox guids and displayNames?

If you are only seeing only the sharedMailbox displayNames when looking at Account, the Entitlement list for the Source my contain some out dated information.

Hi Carl, thanks for taking the time to respond.

I have checked an example account with shared mailboxes in Azure, it is showing it has two shared mailboxes each with two permissions. This is reflected as 4 Shared Mailbox values on the aggregated Account / Shared Mailboxes in ISC. One pair of the shared mailbox values has a readable name while the other pair are showing as GUIDs.

On examination of the Shared Mailboxes:

  • The one showing as GUIDs was created in 2023 and has a CN (in the DN), Id, Identity and name value (in Azure) of the GUID while the ‘displayName’ and ‘alias’ values are the human readable name of the mailbox.
  • The Shared Mailbox that aggregates with the human readable names was created in 2012 and has a CN (in the DN), Id, Identity and name value (in Azure) together with the alias and Display Name values, in the human readable format.

The aggregation of the Shared Mailboxes appears to be using one of CN, Id, Identity or name attribute as the Entitlement display name in ISC.

The application of the ‘useDisplayNameForSharedMailbox’ attribute in the source does not seem to have taken effect.
