Just as a general discussion… what does the team that manages ISC look like at your company?
How many people do you have on the team supporting ISC?
How many are dedicated to ISC specfically, and how many are also primaries for other systems like AD, Okta, Entra, etc.?
Are they called Engineers, Developers, Analysts, Administrators, or something else?
How many of them are Junior, Senior, Staff/Principle, Architect, etc?
What are they doing? Are some dedicated to Certifications or operational tasks?
Is the SailPoint team under Security or under “IT Systems” (or whatever it’s called at your company)? Do they report to the CISO, CTO, CIO, CFO, or other?
How big is your company?
What field is your company in? Government, education, healthcare, ecommerce, retail, tech, finance, etc.
No need to name your employer (or past employers), just trying to get a discussion going around how teams are structured.
My current company: currently just me focused on ISC specifically (as a Staff Engineer), two other engineers supporting ISC as part of their other functions administering Okta/Google Workspace/etc. In the process of hiring a Junior Engineer who will also be solely focused on ISC. Right now, I’m doing the initial configuration and building out sources; the Junior Eng will help with troubleshooting, Certifications, and Source Configuration. We’re under the IT umbrella, with <10k Identities working in tech.
Previous employer: Also just me, took over a greenfield implementation that had been done (poorly) by an implementation partner. I was an Architect under our Security org, again focused solely on ISC. This was about 25k Identities in ecommerce.
Before that: me (Senior Eng) with a second Senior Eng, a Junior Eng, and a couple of Analysts. I led the implementation (a migration from Saviynt), with the other Senior Eng and I doing the majority of the integration work. The Junior Eng worked on some integrations as well, and managed the Certifications from the system perspective (someone from the separate Compliance team managed the actual Certifications process). The Analysts handled most of the operational work that came through, mostly stuff outside of SailPoint. We were initially under Security, but were moved out to IT Systems. This was also ~25k Identities in ecommerce.
