Question regarding SQL Developer and Java with IIQ DBs

Which IIQ version are you inquiring about?

8.2p7

Oracle is doing a scan on our environment. I’ve replaced Oracle Java with Eclipse Adoptium JDK

GPSPTSQL01- Java does exist but again, not sure why as SQL does not rely on Java. I checked using PS to make sure no active java processes were being executed and it looks like it’s not currently doing anything.

So, while it’s installed, there aren’t any active processes linked to anything. I think sometimes you can install Java on SQL servers if you’re trying to connect some sort of IDE to the environment, but it’s not something that would affect availability. I just want to make sure I’m not deleting anything that’s being used since it’s a Prod environment.

For GPSPTAPP03, the paths provided with Java aren’t standalone Java installs. They’re self-contained runtimes used by a program called SQL Developer to launch and run. So per the above, it’s being used as a graphical IDE for working with Oracle databases. The IDE hasn’t been used in 5 years – so I’d assume no one is actively using it. I think these remnants are all connected, just wanted to make this post and gather thoughts on if all can be removed without disruption?

It took me a minute to figure out that these are server names, database names, or something of that nature.

I think a lot more information is needed before there’s even a slight chance of being able to tell you whether or not it’s safe to remove these java distributions.

  • What operating systems are on these servers (name, version)?
  • What are the exact paths to the java executables you’re considering removing?
  • What kind of database are you using?
  • How do you know SQL Developer hasn’t been used for 5+ years?
  • Are these Java distributions (and/or SQL Developer) “installed” by a package manager or “installed” in the Windows sense of the term?

These are just the questions that came to mind off the top of my head.
