Can someone provide insight on the purpose of the idNowDescription attribute that we see in one of our sources?
Hi Mike - The purpose of source description attribute is essentially to get a quick glimpse of what the source is all about, for example if an organization has multiple AD sources configured with ISC (1 for AU domain, 1 for NZ,1 just for AD admins from AU and 1 for AD NZ admins etc. ) - admins can write a snippet in the description of those sources for other admins/helpdesk staff to quickly refer to.
This is to add more detail about source . You will see this attribute in many other object too .
Thanks for the responses. I looks like I wasn’t clear in what I was asking.
We are seeing it as an attribute on all of the accounts coming from a source, however it isn’t defined in our account schema nor does it appear in a csv output.
can you share the screenshot of the source file and the account / identity data
Here is a subset of the attributes on the source. Note that this is a flat file source, we did not define this attribute, and I see it on other sources as well, including Workday.

Hey @Mike_Trachta
So I don’t see any documentation on this attribute but it does seem to be common, see this thread:
I would assume it’s an internal identifier of some sort.
Hi Mike,
Typically “idNowDescription” refers to an internal system attribute that is automatically generated or utilized by IdentityNow for certain purposes to hold metadata or descriptive information about an identity or account.
