IdentityIQ 9.0 and Jakarta EE: a modern application-server foundation for self-hosted IGA
IdentityIQ 9.0 is built on the modern application-server platforms enterprises are adopting for long-term supportability and scale.
Why this matters
The industry standard for building secure, scalable Java applications is now Jakarta EE. The current long-term support lines of Apache Tomcat 10.1.40 and 11.0.6, JBoss EAP, and WebSphere Liberty are built on that standard. IdentityIQ 9.0 adopts Jakarta EE 10 so IdentityIQ can run on those same supported runtimes: current patches, current operational tooling, and a stack designed to align with modern enterprise platform standards and long-term support models.
What is changing, and what is not
This is a change in the Java EE platform IdentityIQ is built on. It is not a move away from Java, and it is not a replacement of IdentityIQ. IdentityIQ remains Java-based. Your identity model, custom Java, and governance processes stay the same. What we certify is the runtime, so we can keep investing in IdentityIQ on infrastructure that will still be supportable.
What you gain with IdentityIQ 9.0
-
Support for current application-server LTS lines — Apache Tomcat 10.1.40 and 11.0.6, JBoss EAP, and WebSphere Liberty.
-
One forward IdentityIQ line — every future capability ships on a current stack.
-
Access to future IdentityIQ innovations, including Metadata Campaigns, time-based access controls, and modernized application definitions. Jakarta EE is the foundation; these are why many customers are already planning the move.
-
The IdentityIQ 9.0 Upgrade Pre-Check Utility inventories Java EE customizations and can prepare proposed Jakarta EE updates for your teams to review and test. You stay in control of production; we give you a head start. Review the utility here.
Planning with confidence
IdentityIQ 9.0 is the destination for Jakarta EE and current application-server LTS lines, including Tomcat 10.1.40 and 11.0.6, JBoss EAP, and WebSphere Liberty — that is the architecture we recommend. IdentityIQ 8.4 and 8.5 remain supported on our published timeline. They are certified today on Tomcat 9.0.x and the Java EE application servers listed in the IdentityIQ support matrix. When you are ready to upgrade, run the IdentityIQ 9.0 Upgrade Pre-Check Utility on 8.5 first.
The Apache Tomcat community has announced that Tomcat 9.0.x will be supported through 31 March 2027. Apache will continue support for Java EE applications in a new 9.1.x stream, which Apache has indicated through 31 December 2030. SailPoint will validate compatibility with Tomcat 9.1.x as soon as a release is available and will support Tomcat 9.1.x as an application server for IdentityIQ 8.4 and 8.5.
Apache has also announced functionality in Tomcat 9.0.x which will not be included in 9.1.x — currently APR/native connectors and Tomcat Native 1.3.x. IdentityIQ does not require this functionality, but it may be enabled in your Tomcat deployment. Review your configuration against the Apache Tomcat 9.0.x end-of-support notice before moving to 9.1.x.
Note: If you stay on Java EE IdentityIQ, 31 March 2027 is not a deadline to move to IdentityIQ 9.0.
