How to backup IdentityIQ database & SSB

Which IIQ version are you inquiring about?

IdentityIQ 8.3

Hi Experts,

I was reviewing the IdentityIQ version upgrade documentation, and a few items confused me:

  1. What is the best option for managing the IdentityIQ database, and how should the database backup be performed?
  2. Regarding the Service Standard Build (SSB), is it necessary for a single-environment setup (e.g., production only)?
  3. For a version upgrade, should we set up SSB first before proceeding with the upgrade?

Hi @Bernardc,

there is not a best option, depends of type, of using, of how many data are stored etc. You can follow the best practice of Microsoft, oracle etc. Same for the backups, if you have a lot of changes every day, its better make a backup more frequently but it could depeds on you company policy and on the resource you can have for the backups.

SSB is not necesary to work on IIQ and you dont need it for the upgrade, but it helps to manage and deploy project with all version and on 1 or 10 enviroments

Hi @enistri_devo,

I see. Referring to the IdentityIQ version upgrade documentation, backing up the IdentityIQ database is necessary. I’d like to know the steps to perform the backup. Would simply copying the C:\identityiq-8.3\database folder suffice? Additionally, how should the database be restored after the version upgrade?

Please correct me if I’m wrong: If there is only a production environment and we wish to perform a version upgrade, SSB won’t be helpful in this case. However, if I’m building a new IdentityIQ (IIQ) environment with a newer version and want to migrate everything from the older version, SSB would be helpful. Am I correct?

No. this folder contains the script to create\update the DB. Usually, the DB is on a separate server(but for very little installation or for ddev enviroment could be everything on the same server). About backups, each type has own procedure and best practice to manage it and you cant copy and paste a file. Check you IIQ DB and follow the correct procedure.

SSB is a “tools” that help you to manage and deploy the project but you can manage and deploy without SSB. Personally, I always recommend to use it because makes the project more organized, easier to manage and makes life easier(work life ). If in this moment you are not using SSB and you are preparing a new installation, it’s the best time to start using it.
