File Upload Utility

The -e option was introduced in the later versions of File Upload Utility. It is there for version 3.0.5. Give that a try!

Hi Neil, may I know what is firewall port and destination required for running the file upload utility. I have tried testing it but it is blocked. Thank you.

Hi @iris_deloitte - The File Upload Utility uses our APIs, so URL is going to be your tenant’s API gateway: https://{tenant}.api.identitynow.com
This is always HTTPS, so communications on port 443.

Also you can run the File Upload Utility with proxies as well. I know some organizations require a proxy in order to call out to external services.

The link you provided is for version 3.0.2. Is there a link to 3.0.4?

Hi Neil, has there been a new date set for the new File Update Utility?

@RArroyo - We’re in testing right now, and the new version of File Upload Utility will be out this week assuming all goes well.

What about this feature, I have never seen this in the IDN UX.

|-disableOptimization|No|Disables optimization for account aggregation.
Default is false.|

Hello @iris_deloitte - For timeout issues, I would consult your networking teams or networking configurations where this runs. A timeout occurs when the File Upload Utility runs and tries to reach the cloud, but not able to get a response back in a timely fashion (by default we wait up to 10 seconds). Commonly this is related to firewalls blocking communication, or need to use proxies for external (cloud) communication (we have configurations for proxy). In the rare case of slow network performance, you can also adjust the timeout settings as well.

Hi @kbeckwith - The disableOptimization feature has been an advanced API-only feature for a very long time. Essentially optimization skips processing steps on unchanged records; most notably, SailPoint doesn’t evaluate correlation processes. We have this feature in the File Upload Utility to disable optimization, to be able to force a re-running of correlation processes. This is useful for implementations. Hope this helps!

Hi Neil,

Yes, I know what this feature does, my point is why work on this utility when it should be built into the UX. Many of the IDN capabilities are lacking when compared to IIQ refresh tasks, and account/entitlement aggregation tasks. This is one of those checkboxes. If the core function is upload files cool for some external scripting but having random tools built creates a barrier to entry when using the product.

@kbeckwith - I mentioned this earlier, but you can aggregate files from the user interface; you certainly don’t have to use this tool. Feel free to develop your own if you like. It is meant as relatively simple tool for people to bulk aggregate files from a place where the files are stored (usually on-premise). This tool can be invoked by other scripts or tools. It is a convenience so that people don’t have resort to their own scripting. I made this tool for the community, and I hope everyone appreciates its existence.

As for your other remarks about the user interface; I hear you, and I think it is a good idea. However, I am not on the SailPoint Product team, nor do I have any control over that. I am merely a Developer Community contributor much like others in the community.

There’s a background of there being frustration with totally unrelated areas of IDN where we ask SailPoint to fill gaps on basic functionality. I don’t think that’s an issue with the utility.

The FUU is super usefully, generally works as long as your network allows it, and your tenant isn’t having a problem. The downside is that SailPoint doesn’t seem to want to support it. It’s a critical tool that probably most customers use, has been around since 2014 and is written and maintained by a SailPoint employee. SailPoint insists its community-supported but that’s kind of mind-boggling. I am thankful for the FUU - I just think SailPoint ought to own it and support it from 1st level up.

Hi Neil,

Would like to know for the personal token that to be used for file upload utility, can we limit the scope? or we must set ā€œsp:scopes:allā€?

Hi @neil_mcglennon

Is there any target date for the 3.0.5 version? I still do not see any updates from this thread or the doco there yet
https://community.sailpoint.com/docs/DOC-3140

Thanks,
Ronald

Currently these APIs require sp:scopes:all. With the newly emerging V3 APIs I have asked SailPoint Engineering if we could get a lesser scope for aggregating, so we don’t have to over-privilege these PATs.

Hi @ronaldchuiASB - The 3.0.5 version was already released. We’re planning on releasing a new version 4.0.0 as early as this week with updated V3 APIs.

Hi @neil_mcglennon ,

Can you post a link to the latest File Upload Utility version?

The link in the SailPoint is outdated and it is still pointing to 3.0.2

Thanks,
