Account Renames - Transforms or Rules?

Disclaimer: I know account renames are not recommended or a best practice, but …

We have numerous clients that use name based account names (i.e jsmith, johh.smith, etc.) and when a name change occurs this requires the account name to be changed also. Primarily in Active Directory where the samAccountName, UPN, mail, proxyaddresses, etc. need to ALL be updated.

I’m curious what the opinions are for coordinating this via rule(s) and/or transforms is for those that have done this.

I do not know if this case is the one that matches your question, but I have 2 cases where idn uid is constructed from the complete name. Sometimes, user’s does not like the assigned login/email and ask to changes it (obviously vip, ceos, etc). So they do it on ADUC.

The login logic is done via a rule. And there is a First Valid transform that first protity is the AD login, and in second place a transform that just reference the rule.

Uid changes are propagated to other sources.
