Hello all,

I have an issue that I am looking for some assistance with. We have about 1500 tasks that need to be canceled. These are no longer needed but I am not seeing an option to just cancel them out.

Since we have everything connected to our HR sources, we don’t need to create the accounts anymore in ISC. Using the UI I only see the options to complete or reassign. When I use the [Task Management | SailPoint Developer Community](https://developer.sailpoint.com/docs/api/v2026/task-management) APIs, this seems to only include those related to our sources and not the manual tasks. Am I missing something?

Hey @michael_mckeehan

Have you tried using this API? You should be able to PATCH the completionStatus and completed attributes so the task will close out successfully.

```auto
[
  {
    "op": "replace",
    "path": "/completionStatus",
    "value": "SUCCESS"
  },
  {
    "op": "replace",
    "path": "/completed",
    "value": "2026-04-20T19:33:16.470Z"
  }
]
```

Here is some high level psuedo code that may help:

1. GET Task ID’s using a filter `?filters=completionStatus eq "PENDING"`
2. Loop through tasks and PATCH the above for each task ID.
3. GET back the ID to verify completion.

since you have 1500 tasks to close, you might want to check out this thread which has a similar bulk closure discussion with some script examples that could save you time:

Let’s say for now I don’t mind if it deletes the task, marks it as completed or marks it as n…

Thanks all for replying.

I think I am seeing the problem thanks to the post from @utkirjonkamiljanov. When looking at the UI, it plainly states that what I am needing to cancel are tasks, when the API calls these ‘Work Items’. This is a bit confusing in my opinion. Thanks, as this is taking me a step in the right direction as I was not finding the tasks by the ID.

@trettkowski I will need to try something similar to what you have with the state as seen below:

```auto
[
    {
        "id": "###",
        "requesterId": "###",
        "requesterDisplayName": "SYSTEM",
        "ownerId": "###",
        "ownerName": "slpt.services",
        "created": "2024-12-10T17:22Z",
        "modified": "2024-12-10T17:22Z",
        "description": "Manual Changes requested for User: FN, LN",
        "state": "Pending",
        "type": "ManualAction",
        "remediationItems": [],
        "approvalItems": [
            {
                "id": "###",
                "application": "ISC Admins",
                "account": null,
                "operation": "Create",
                "name": "groups",
                "value": "value",
                "state": null
            }
        ],
        "name": null,
        "completed": null,
        "numItems": null,
        "form": null
    }
]
```

@amulpuru, This is actually a link to another post that I had on the same subject, but forgot I had. I was looking at the workflow and it looks like it is revoking access requests, which is not what is needing to be done. Come to find out these are Work Items that the UI lists as task (you would think you would use the Task Management API for this).

If I have time to resolve this this week I will keep everyone updated.
