# Quarter Variable

## Which IIQ version are you inquiring about?

8.3

## Share all details about your problem, including any error messages you may have received.

When using the variable ${quarter} for the title of a certification or in an email template, we always get an incorrect value. For instance, in November this variable returns Q1 instead of Q4.

How is this variable defined by the system and how can we correct this issue?

Try going to `Global Settings` → `Time Periods`

You should see First Quarter, Second Quarter, Third Quarter, Fourth Quarter defined there. The value you are seeing are the defaults:
